Tunisia holds conference on “mobile telephony applications and services”

A conference on “mobile telephony applications and services” was held on Wednesday in Gammarth.
The event is part of multilateral co-operation between Tunisia and stakeholders taking part in the Conference -World Bank, Korean Information Society Development Institute (KISDI), Korean Communication Commission Institute for Development of Information Society, Korean Communications Commission.
 It aims at prompting exchange of expertise in terms of promotion of digital services and better publicizing new mobile telephony applications.
Opening the Conference, Minister of Communication Technologies, Mr. Mohamed Naceur Ammar said access to different networks experienced a significant progress in Tunisia, reviewing, in this regard, the rise of telephone density to 117% in 2010, compared to 14.9% in 2001, the increase in the number of mobile telephone users to 11 million in September 2010, in addition to the rise in the rate of Tunisia’s connection to the global Internet network to reach 47.5 Gbits per second.
The representative of the Korean Communication Commission said Korea is seeking to strengthen co-operation with Tunisia in the sector of mobile telephony applications, pointing out that Tunisia’s developed infrastructure is likely to turn it into a relay market to Africa.
For his part, the representative of the World Bank stressed the quality of Tunisian-Korean co-operation in the mobile telephone applications field, underlining that this partnership is an example to follow on the regional level.
The agenda of the Conference includes accounts from communication companies operating in Tunisia in the sector of mobile telephony applications and services, such as private operator “Orange” which has sought, since its launch to encourage youth to innovate in this sector.
