PICTI participated at the “Training of Trainers for the Transfer of the Bahrain-Arab Model for Enterprise Development & Investment Promotion Program” which was held in Bahrain during the period of June 26th – July 2nd, 2007.

Mr. Laith Kassis, PICTI General Manager said that this training was organized by the ARCEIT in cooperation with the Bahrain Development Bank and the Arab Gulf Programs for United Nations Development Organizations and also from the infoDev program of the World Bank which is specialized in developing entrepreneurs and institutions capabilities in the Information Technology field. This training was held in the Investment & Technology Promotion office of the UNIDO-Bahrain.

In addition to the participation of Mr. Kassis, PICTI General Manager, and Engineer Hasan Omar, PICTI IT and Operations Manager, the Palestinian delegation also consisted of three of the winners of the Business Plan Contest which was carried out earlier this year. The three winners were Mr. Mohammad Qalalweh, Hanna Kreteim, and Abdul Karim Haj Mohammed. Their participation was fully covered by the infoDev program of the World Bank.

It is noteworthy that the Bahraini-Arab model was designed to help entrepreneurs to transform their ideas into projects through providing them with the needed training, counseling, linking Technology in order to create partnerships with investors and afterwards applied the Incubation process. This model is currently used in ten countries noting that this model includes the integration of three parties which are: the institutions working on guiding entrepreneurs to become investor ready, also financial and developmental institutions as well as business incubators.

Participants from Saudi Arabia and Lebanon also took the training and Eng. Omar said that the delegation also paid a visit to the Arab Open University – Bahrain branch. They were received by the University president Dr. Samir Fahkro who in turn took them in a tour around the university and briefed them on the university and its role.

He also added that the delegation also paid a visit to the Bahrain Business Incubator where they were received by the General Manager who accompanied them in a tour and explained to them the mechanism of the incubator work and the incubated projects.

At the end of the training program, Sheikh Ibrahim Bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Chairman of Bahrain Development Bank distributed certificates to the participants.
