23rd Executive Bureau Meeting of Arab Telecom and Information Council of Ministers

23rd Executive Bureau Meeting of Arab Telecom and Information Council

 

The 23rd executive bureau of the Arab Ministers of Telecommunications and Information Council meeting was held at the Arab League premises in Cairo under the chairmanship of Dr. Tarek Kamel, Minister of Communications and Information Technology.

The meeting tackled a number of issues including the "Arab Strategy on ICT - building the Information Society 2007-2012" authorized earlier in July during the council’s last meeting, Arabic domain names, the outcomes of the Arab Task Force for Operation and Tariffs, the increasing mobile roaming fees in the Arab world and the results of the 10th Arab Permanent Task Force for Frequency Spectrum meeting held in Damascus. 

The meeting also reviewed and followed up on the preparations for the first Arab Summit on Socio-economic Development to be held later this year in Kuwait, the outcomes of the World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC) held last October in Geneva as well as the anticipated role of the International Telecommunication Union’s regional bureau.  
 
The meeting also presented the outcomes of the Arab Permanent Post Committee meeting including the Arab Post Strategy Task Force, the regulation of the Arab post market, the preparation for the World Post Conference due in Kenya in September 2008 and the follow-up on the implementation of the Bucharest Digital Divide Bridging Strategy for developed and developing nations.
