WEBIT History in move

Since 2003, WEBIT successfully completed five local cycles and two regional ones; the following is a brief of each:

WEBIT Amman 2003

Sponsored by Emirates Airlines, the first cycle of WEBIT (previously known as WEBEX) took place in Le Meridian Amman hotel in December 2003 under the slogan of (YOUR JOURNEY INTO E – SPACE).

The show was focusing on E business Applications and was mostly interested in WEB and INTERNET technologies.
Considering being the first cycle, the exhibition enjoyed a very big success at all levels and aspects (visitors, exhibitors. Media coverage, etc…)

WEBIT Amman 2004

For the second year, WEBIT (under the name of WEBEX) was organized in Le Meridian Amman hotel in July 2004.
The exhibition continued focusing on E business Applications and INTERNET technologies. But as the show was running in its second cycle, it experienced a significant growth in terms of participants especially the regional and international presence.

And for the first time, Jordan telecom (currently known as ORANGE) was one of the event’s main sponsors.

WEBIT also experienced a big jump in terms of media coverage and visitor counts. A one proof of that was Al Jazeera famous channel sponsorship of the event.

WEBIT Amman 2005

As in the second cycle, WEBIT was sponsored again by Al Jazeera of Qatar in addition to the Egyptian ISP TE Data and the Arab law info portal.
The exhibition was organized in Hyatt Amman hotel for the first time and ran in the period of May 2005.

The show continued focusing on E business Applications and INTERNET technologies with a limited introduction of IT and Telecom sectors.
Repeatedly, there was a remarkable growth in terms of participants, media coverage and visitor counts.

WEBIT Amman 2006

This was the fourth cycle of the event and the first with the new name “WEBIT”.

The name change was to introduce new horizons to the exhibition’s focus. As a result of that, there was a strong participation of IT companies and telecommunication organizations such as Fastlink (currently Zain), Globitel, Arabic textware, Risck, Kindi soft, Global star, etc…
This introduction of new exhibiting sectors was not compromising the original theme of the show where E business and INTERNET participants kept occupying the major part of the exhibition.

The event was organized in Hyatt Amman hotel for the second year and ran in the period of May 2006.

WEBIT 2006 was sponsored by the giant finance group “Orion Holding Overseas” together with New York Institute of Technology “NYIT”, SAMA telecom, The Egyptian telecom group “TE Data” and Amman Municipality.

Alrai News paper was the official media and press partner of the exhibition

WEBIT Amman 2007

In the fifth cycle of the event, WEBIT achieved the most significant growth since foundation in 2003.

Such growth was demonstrated through many aspects and was reflected in all sides of the exhibition. In the following, a brief of the developments experienced in this cycle:

  • A significant support was provided by the platinum sponsor “The Housing bank for trade and finance” and the strategic partner “Jordan University for Science and Technology”.
  • Around 50% of exhibitors were IT and telecom.
  • Major worldwide corporations were part of the show for the first time. This was demonstrated by the Microsoft sponsorship of the event in addition to the participation of world famous brands like DELL, AMD processors, ESRI GIS, etc…
  • The international conference for Digital communication and Computer Applications was organized in parallel to the exhibition with the presence of delegates from more than 40 countries worldwide.
  • Significant growth in media coverage and media campaign associated with the exhibition activities. The continued support of Alrai and al Arab alyoum newspapers and introducing radio promotion by Mazaj fm was the basis of such growth.
  • The huge traffic of academic visitors to the exhibition due to the provision of free transport between universities / colleges and the exhibition venue.
  • The provision of free parking area for WEBIT visitors.
  • Due to the above factors, quantity and quality of visitors broke all records not only compared to previous cycles but also in comparison to other locally based exhibitions.
  • The introduction of WEBIT forum as a channel for exhibitors to present their services and products in the form of lectures and presentations.

WEBIT Kuwait 2006 and WEBIT Syria 2007

After the huge success of WEBIT as an exhibition and as an idea in Jordan, the expo took the shape of a road show moving from one Middle East country to another.

Accordingly, WEBIT was organized by the Kuwaiti group E Cinex in May 2006 in parallel to WEBIT Amman 2006 and was a good success for a first cycle. WEBIT Kuwait was sponsored by YAHOO Middle East and enjoyed a wide public and private participation by Kuwaiti and gulf organizations.

Similar to that, WEBIT Syria was organized in March 2007 in parallel to the fifth cycle of WEBIT Amman. The Syrian copy of the show achieved a well recognized exposure in its first year gathering more than 75 exhibitors from Syria and the region. The biggest achievement of the Syrian WEBIT was the huge and extensive media coverage provided by the Syrian press to the event and the significant support furnished by the Syrian officials and government to the organizers.
