GITEX Computer Shopper 2008

GITEX Computer Shopper 2008 - Unmatched Business Opportunities at the Most Popular Computer Retail Event in the Middle East

A mix of high-oil-price-fuelled liquidity, rapid growth of an ever-younger population, and increasing use of the Internet, especially for e-commerce and e-banking, has created in Saudi Arabia the fastest-growing computer and computer software market in the region. Last year, the Kingdom registered record annual computer and software sales of up to a billion dollars, fuelled by annual sales growth of 2% to 3%. Figures will be further boosted by an ambitious plan by Crown Prince Abdullah Wattani to equip 21,000 schools with PCs and related equipment over the next five years.

Saudi Computer and Software Sales Forecast to Rise Further, thanks to High Disposable Income and Rapidly Increasing Internet Usage

Saudi Arabia, which boasts the region’s most powerful economy, accounts for 40% of the almost $5 billion regional computer and IT applications market. PC, laptop and software and hardware applications sales are set to rise further in the coming years, as ever more people begin to use the Internet, for leisure and business activities, notably e-banking and e-trade.

The Internet was only introduced in Saudi Arabia in 1998. By 2003, there were more than 20 Internet Service Providers, serving 600,000 subscribers and 1.5 million users – a figure expected to triple over the next two years. By the end of 2006, there will be 25 million Internet users in the region.
