While Houthi groups are carrying out region-wide campaigns to block the Yemeni and Arab news sites, and as an escalation of the Houthis, the Arab Internet Freedom Alliance learned of their intention to block some social networking sites and blogs.
The Houthi groups have blocked urgent news sources that normally use “SMS” to send out flash-news  of Yemeni and Arab news agencies, and blocked dozens of Yemeni news sites, in addition to the blocked sites of AlArbiya.net news and Al Jazeera.net.
Telecommunications companies in Yemen have been forced to stop news services via mobile "SMS" after Houthis forced it to do so through the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, which it controls.
Currently, there are moves to withhold the “Whatsapp” services in Yemen, amid objections by the telecommunications companies.
