Comex 2009 to ‘go green’
Comex, a five-day exhibition which will open on May 25 at the Oman International Exhibition Centre, is all set to showcase a wide array of latest electronics products especially designed for businesses and lay consumers.

Into its 19th year, Comex 2009 this time will ‘go green’ and promises to bring in a wide range of IT products and consumer electronics items never seen before.
“Every year people desire something new. This is why this year’s Comex will focus on new concepts,” said Atif Khan, senior manager of Trade Fairs at OITE at a press conference at the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry yesterday.
This year, Comex will feature new and enriched concepts such as e-governance, e-health, e-learning, e-gaming, and green IT, besides digital equipment technologies, wireless and satellite communications and consumer electronics goods.
‘Bigger hit’
Comex will cater to the growing demand for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) products, services and solutions across all sectors. Corporate decision makers can get a wide range of IT, telecom and technology products and services at the business area. Tech-savvy enthusiasts on the other hand can indulge in a broad spectrum of the latest technology, hardware, software, gadgets and consumer electronics at the shopper area.
“Comex 2008 had a representation of over 200 companies with more than 50,000 visitors attending the show. This year, with the integration of e-governance and green IT show, the exhibition is expected to be another big hit. With the country’s healthy appetite for ICT products, Comex is set to boost the industry’s growth potential and the market’s digital lifestyle,” he said
“We are expecting much bigger and stronger participation from government sectors in Comex 2009 than last year,” he added.
Comex will house various IT, telecom and technology companies ranging from large businesses to small and medium enterprises from countries such as the UAE, Egypt, Singapore, Jordan and Saudi Arabia, among others.
Comex IT school
An annual value-added programme introduced for the first time at the Comex 2008, the Comex IT School with Tariq Al Barwani will continue this year as well, specifically devoted to Comex visitors. The programme highlights what’s new in the area of the information and communications technology. Visitors can learn, ask questions and get answers directly from Oman’s IT expert. This year’s IT School sessions will focus on hacking without the use of technology, building and maintaining an effective business on the internet, nuts and bolts of becoming an IT expert, digital technologies and Green IT.
