Algeria to seek new valuation for Djezzy

The Algerian government will seek a new valuation for Vimpelcom’s local mobile subsidiary Djezzy before acquiring a 51% stake in the company, an anonymous source told Reuters.

Mobilis secures 3G equipment from Huawei; licences available in two weeks?

Algerie Telecom Mobile (ATM/Mobilis) has selected Chinese vendor Huawei to deploy its 3G network in the cities of Oran, Skikda and Ouargla. With Algeria’s long-awaited 3G licensing process rumoured to be close to completion, Huawei will provide multi-band network antennas for the deployment of the cellco’s long-awaitedUMTS network.

Algérie : le gouvernement veut d’abord acquérir Djezzy avant de lancer la 3G

(Agence Ecofin) - En marge d’une réunion organisée à l’Assemblée populaire nationale sur l’accès des services postaux et des TIC, Moussa Benhamadi, le ministre de la Poste et des Technologies de l’information et de la communication a expliqué pourquoi il pourrait y avoir un retard dans le lancement de la 3G, annoncé pour le premier trimestre 2013. D’après le ministre, l’Etat a le souci de ne priver aucun opérateur des avantages que va fournir cette technologie. Il voudrait donc d’abord acquérir l’opérateur Djezzy avant de passer à la 3G, vu que la loi algérienne interdit à tout opérateur d’acheter une licence s’il est en état de cession ou de changement de la composante de ses actionnaires principaux.
