Telcos team up for new submarine cable in Bay of Bengal

A consortium of telecoms providers yesterday signed a construction and maintenance agreement to deploy a new 8,000km submarine cable system linking Malaysia and Singapore to Oman and the UAE, with branches to India and Sri Lanka. Subsea World News writes that the consortium teaming up for the project, dubbed the Bay of Bengal Gateway (BBG), consists of: Malaysian fixed line incumbent Telekom Malaysia; the UK’s Vodafone Group; state-backed full service provider Oman Telecommunications Company (Omantel); UAE-based Etisalat Group; Dialog Axiata, the Sri Lankan arm of Malaysia’s Axiata; and Reliance Jio Infocomm, the telecoms unit of Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL).

Omantel committed to provide best Internet broadband service

The majority state-owned Oman Telecommunications Company (Omantel) yesterday said it is committed to provide customers with the best broadband service, a wide choice, large coverage and superior service quality. "We aim to provide all customers with a broadband service which fits their specific requirements, leveraging our fixed and mobile networks. Our range of offerings is wide, and we trust we can offer something for everyone," Samy Al Ghassany, Chief Operating Officer of Omantel, told reporters here yesterday.

Omantel Launches LTE Services in Oman

Oman based mobile network, Omantel has launched its LTE network, the first in the Sultanate. The launch follows the awarding of Omantel's LTE network contracts to Huawei and Ericsson end of last May.

MUSCAT Information Technology Authority (ITA) on Saturday signed a contract with Certiport for the Government IT Training and Certification (GITTC) project to train 93,507 civil service employees in cooperation with the Ministry of Civil Services and Ministry of Education.
